Project overview

Ensuring safe and secure
urban air mobility

GAUSSIAN, short for "Galileo AUthentication and GNSS/INS platforms for Secure and Safe services In Air Navigation and mobility," tackles some security aspects of UAM applications by proposing a compact EGNSS-powered navigation system. GAUSSIAN integrates authenticated Galileo signals into a GNSS/INS platform for robustness against spoofing and leverages advancements in PNT technologies, including Galileo High Accuracy Service (HAS) corrections, for enhanced accuracy.

The project aligns with the European Commission's flight test recommendations for drone prototypes, planning demonstrations in Italy and Austria in the second half of the project. The consortium is guided by a leading European company in the field of high-tech inertial solutions and navigation systems and comprises partners with expertise in air mobility services and avionics, scientists engaged in R&D initiatives on GNSS signal processing, experts in the introduction of innovative technologies into emerging markets.

Starting from existing concepts and prototypes, GAUSSIAN paves the way to introduce innovative features in future products. It aims to enhance aircraft navigation safety for urban air mobility services, benefiting stakeholders and society through scientific, economic, technological, and social advancements.
