An eVTOL (electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing aircraft) is a new generation of aircraft that can take off and land vertically—like a helicopter—but is powered by electric propulsion systems. Designed to be quieter, more efficient, and more sustainable, eVTOLs are considered a key technology enabling Urban Air Mobility (UAM) for transporting people and goods across cities.

However, operating safely in dense urban environments requires highly reliable and resilient navigation systems. This is where the GAUSSIAN Project wants to contribute. Funded by Horizon Europe, GAUSSIAN is developing advanced navigation solutions that integrate Galileo with GNSS/INS technologies, improving positioning accuracy, robustness, and security—essential capabilities for future eVTOL operations in urban skies.
